One-man operation saves time and reduces error.
Use of clear tough plastic eliminates bubble worry.
The Hydrolevel is well adapted to inside work; ceilings, floors, fixtures,
etc. It easily extends level lines high or low, around or over obstructions.
Placing the tube higher than the reservoir does not cause and error. For
short transfers, pull out only enough tube to do the job.
Fill the Hydrolevel:
Squeeze some food color into a glass jar or can and add 2 1/4 cups tap water.
Place the jar in an elevated position and hold the tube end to the bottom. Insert
the short tube into the reservoir vent and suck lightly to start syphon
action. When the jar is empty, the tube will be filled without air
voids and the reservoir will be about half full, which conditions are
necessary for accurate leveling. With the tube cap replaced, the level is
ready for unreeling. Spin the container to prevent tube kinking.
Precision Leveling:
The Hydrolevel tube is designed for the best movement of the water; not too
fast nor too slow and with a small bounce when it stops. Let the water stop
about six inches from the tube end. Shake the lower tube lightly to make the
water settle and place a mark there. For a double check, lower the tube about
two inches and let the water rise to the mark. Then raise the tube about two
inches and let the water fall to the mark. This mark will be accurate to 1/32
of an inch if there is reserve water in the reservoir and no voids in the
tube.
Clean Water:
The Hydrolevel operates best with tap water colored to make it visible. After
a few weeks this colored water may become sluggish due to bacterial growth,
in which case it must be replaced with clean water. A quarter cup of rubbing
alcohol or two tablespoons of laundry bleach will keep the water clean for a
longer time, but the bleach will fade the color.
Reservoir Connection:
This connection is a tapered socket into which the tube is inserted. After
the level is filled and used, check this connection before putting it away.
If it should leak then or later, the connection can easily be remade. With
pliers, pull the tube from the socket. Cut off about two inches and coat the
end with silicone or other waterproof glue. With the pliers, force the tube
back into the socket, like putting a stopper in a bottle.
Stow Away:
When the layout is finished, spin the tube back into the container. Remove
the tube cap to prevent air voids after a long lay away. The Hydrolevel
remains ready for immediate use.
